Dana Point Harbor Partners Helps Local Kids Get Back On The Baseball Field

Dana Point Youth Baseball will soon have a new shed to store new equipment at 34052 Del Obispo Street. Dana Point Harbor Partners (DPHP) has made a charitable donation of $12,000 to rebuild an equipment shed and to replace much of the equipment that was lost in the recent May fire.

Dana Point Youth Baseball (DPYB) has grown to support 1,000 kids in the local Dana Point community annually and is one of the largest youth baseball programs in the state. This May, an early morning fire destroyed much of the organization’s resources including its equipment shed, pitching and fielding machines, batting cages, baseballs, umpire gear and scoreboard controllers. To complete the spring season, the Dana Point league loaned necessary equipment from neighboring Laguna Niguel and San Clemente leagues.

Since then, DPYB’s President, Dana Kislig initiated a GoFundMe page raising nearly $28,000 to keep the program running, replace some of the destroyed equipment, and begin the process of rebuilding the batting cages. With this timely donation from DPHP, young players and their coaches will quickly have access to a new equipment shed and the replacement of essential equipment in Dana Point.

“When we were made aware of the setback, we were moved to jump in and help,” said Bryon Ward of Dana Point Harbor Partners. “We are happy to play a small role in rebuilding this fantastic program under Dana’s leadership. This is a beloved community pastime, and we wanted to ensure the kids do not miss a beat.”

Dana Point Harbor Partners joins the City of Dana Point, and hundreds of individual donors in supporting this effort. Ward presented the donation to President Kislig, joined by Dana Point Mayor Jamey Federico and City Manager Mike Killebrew late last week. The purchase of the new shed comes just as the fall league gets underway.

“Dana Point Youth Baseball has been a south Orange County staple since 1968. We have been overwhelmed by the community support in ensuring the program is able to carry on. On behalf of the teams and the entire organization, we are truly grateful for this generous donation,” said Dana Kislig, Dana Point Youth Baseball President.

DPYB is continuing to work with the City of Dana Point on the design and replacement of their batting cages.

“The city appreciates DPHP’s generous gift so DPYB can get the project started. The city is also dedicated to accelerating the planning and replacement of the batting cages so the entire facility can be rebuilt bigger and better than it was before,” said Jamey Federico, Mayor of Dana Point. “This is a great example of the city, its community groups, and our local business working together for the benefit of our residents.”
